We bid Adieu to the waves of green grass tipped with the colour of straw wild in the wind. Adieu to the crayola coloured houses that look like they have been drawn by children. A door and two windows each house in one solid colour poppy red, lemon chiffon, sky blue. I
The day we leave it is so windy that the ferry is delayed so we make a last little road trip down to Sandy Hook, an incredible white sand beach and dunes. With the insane wind the sand is whipping and biting our ankles and the waves are rushing and racing into the beach – the water is very shallow for at least a kilometre so the waves don’t so much crash as race. We are totally alone and the sky is clear. We make a few final stops – one last croissant!
We make the ferry without incident and the ride was exciting (a little scary) with all passengers lurching around like drunks.
